An equation is a mathmatical satment.

Each side has to keep the balencement.

Since you know each side has the same value,

You can find solutions like x=2.

Add your own cacthy tune so you can remember what an equation is.OR you can just remember that it is a math statement that usually describes a situation.

Unknown: this is just a letter or simble that represents the number in your equation that you need to figure out or don't know.

Step by step.How to solve an equation.

1)First, ask yourself. What is being done to my variable?

2)Second, do the inverse opperation. The oppisite. Like subbtracting and adding. Multiplying and dividing.

3)Now that you have the answer all you have to do is write it down.

EX. 4+n=8 First.What is being done to your variable?Yah! We're adding.SeCoNd. Do the inverse opperation. In this case you are adding 4 to n so the oppisite opperation is subtracting. 4+n=8

-4 -4

Because the the problem adds 4 and you are taking away4, then that just gets you back to 0. The same thing with subtracting, if had -8 you already have 8 taken away.When you add 8 so that will just be 0 too.

n=4( tHIRD copy it done in some way.Type,write,draw with chalk on the sidewalk.)

Is this making sense? If so, that's great. If not, here are some more examples. Then try some on your own. 3+x=10 14=y-3 20=z-12

-3 -3 +3 +3 +12 +12

x=10 17=y 32=z

Ps.Remember Don't do the same opperation or you'll get the wrong answer.Do the inverse opperation.

Sorry, because I'm typeing on the computer I can't show you how to do a equation with multiplication or division. If you just remember to do the inverse opperation you'll be fine.Also, when you have a division problem and you go to do your multiplication do it to the side of your problem to make it easier along the way.

Well, how do you know your answer is right? CHECKIN' TIME!!!!!

Here is step by step how to check your work. LA LA LA.

1) Rewrite the equation. In this case type. Lets use our old equation.

4+n=8

2)Put the number you found in the place of your unkown.

4+4=8

3) Solve your problem.

4+4=8.......8=8

4) YEP! we're right so , n DOes infact =4

When you are done checking it should look like this. 4+n=8

4+4=8

8=8

n=4

factors and gcf

Factors and GCF (greatest common factor)!!!!!!!!
The first thing you should know before doing factors and GCF'S is what a factor is. In a nutshell, the definition of a factor is a number you multiply by another number to get your product.
Now you can start to learn how to do factors. Say the two numbers you have are 4 and 20. All you need to do is make a list of all the numbers you can multiply to get to the number you want and then find the the largest number they both have.
EX. 4 = 1,4,2,2
20= 1,20,2,10,4,5
So greatest common factor of 4 and 20 is 4. Sometimes you can just find the factors for the smaller number and see if any of those numbers can go into your larger number.
If you are sitting at your computer reading this thinking when am I going to use this, heres a thought. When you have a large fraction, you can find the GCF to simplify your fraction. EXPONENTS AND SCIENTIFIC NOTATION!!!!!To do this fun and exciting math activity, you need to multiply a number by its self as many times as the exponents says.EX. 2 to the 3 rd power (2 cubed) means 2 multiplied by 2 multiplied by 2 = 8. The base is the main number you start with ,and the exponent is the smaller number by the stage right corner.DO NOT do 2 mutliplied by 3 and get 6.6 is Wrong. Does every one know what the mode is? It is really simmlpe. In a group of digits the mode is the number that accures the most. ex. 1,2,2,3,4,5 in this group the mode is 2. You might use this when seeing what was the % that most people got on a test. You can remember it as mode most. Now go do your math homework and stop fooling around Crazy!!!!!!
